Assignment #17 (Part 1)
Watch these videos and learn how to alter a skirt block to add fullness.
Once you have watched the video trace the skirt block that you used last week to add fullness and seam allowance to the block of the skirt.
Instructions
Part 1
Once you have traced the Block and added fullness and added seam allowance to it, take a picture of the 2 patterns, Name them “Skirt #2 from Block” and upload them to your folder. This is due Wednesday (3/17.
Take the Block (that you used last week) and on a piece of pattern paper, trace the skirt block. Watch the video in order to learn how to add fullness to the block (changing it to a new block). Once the fullness is established, add the appreciate markings (Video #2).
After you have made the new block, add 1/4” seam allowance to all seams Except the Center back and the bottom (Skirt hem). On the Center Front do not add, put the “FOLD” symbol on center front (This is so it can be cut on the fold). On Center Back, add 1/2” from the waist down 2”. (This is so a closure can be added to the back). The rest of the center back will have just 1/4” added (see 2nd video). On the Bottom, add 1/2” seam allowance (this will be the hem) and it will be sewn with a whip stitch.
Once you have finished adding seam allowance, add all the appropriate markings (Front, Back, “Skirt”, grain lines, size, “Fold” symbol). You will cut 2 of each piece (left & Right) except for the front (Which is cut on the fold (see 4th video)
**Be aware, when you cut the skirt in “Fashion” fabric you will need to cut each pattern (except the front) 2 times and you will need to flip the pattern so you have a left and a right.
