Sew a Running Stitch
Assignment #7
Due Tuesday February 2
Take the pattern handed out in class (or picked up from school if you are virtual) and cut 2 of them out of the orange fleece. Make sure you add 1/4” seam allowance all the way around. Pin the 2 together (or just make sure they don’t shift). Thread a needle and tie a knot in the 2 ends (cut off the thread tail). Using 1/4” seam allowance sew all the way around the circle (using a running stitch) stopping with enough opening to stuff with fiberfill. Tie off your thread well and cut. (Take a picture of the sewn pieces before turning) Turn the circle inside out and stuff inside (not too tight). Use a “Whip Stitch” to close off the opening NEATLY.
Now thread your needle once again and tie a knot (Double threads). Put the needle up through the button given out and then back down placing the needle between the two threads just before the knot Pull the thread tight to the button. Push the needle down through the stuffed fabric (in the center) and then back up running it into the opposite hole in the button. Repeat this (Through the button and fabric and back up into different hole ) anti the button is uniformly secured. The button should be pulled tight each time. On the last time down, tie the thread off on the under side (securely) and cut it off.
New Pin Cushion - Upload the picture of the “Running Stitch” cushion before you turn it and name it “Running Stitch” and take a picture of the finished cushion and name it “Pin Cushion.
Find the video HERE.
In the envelope you picked up in class you should find a sheet that gives instructions on how to make a pin cushion. You should also find 2 squares of orange fleece fabric, stuffing, and a button. Watch the video that is linked above and it should become clear. Let me know if this answers your question.
Be sure to take a picture of the 'Running stitch' before you turn and stuff the cushion & once you complete the project.
